Course Information for Participants

Background

Course Content

The health landscape of the 21st century has undergone a pivotal shift. Chronic stress – rather than physical trauma – has become the primary driver of many health conditions. This change in aetiology has led to increasingly complex symptom presentations and calls for a new therapeutic paradigm – one that includes autonomic reasetting as a foundational intervention in manual therapy

As a participants you will learn both the science and hands-on application of autonomic reasetting with The Reaset Approach, and how to integrate it seamlessly into your existing structure–function treatment framework. Building on your current skills and clinical experience, you will explore: What autonomic dysregulation truly is; Why it underlies so many modern physical and mental health problems – including musculoskeletal disorders; How to address it effectively using the structured, stepwise modalities of The Reaset Approach.

Objective

As stress-related disorders continue to rise – and traditional biomechanical treatments reach their limits – you as a manual therapist need a method that address the root causes of these disorders which are not in the body but in the brain before treating its symptoms. The Reaset Approach answers this call – bridging the gap between biomechanical structure–function interventions and autonomic regulation.

This course equips you with a practical, science-informed methodology you can implement immediately – enhancing clinical outcomes and boosting professional confidence. It builds on your existing expertise and offers the “missing link” you have been looking for.

By investing in this training, you offer yourself more than a course – you give yourself a forward-looking solution to today’s most pressing therapeutic challenges. Don’t miss the opportunity to be among the first to introduce this breakthrough approach in your region – and position yourself at the forefront of 21st-century healthcare.

WHAT IS AUTONOMIC REASETTING?

Autonomic Reasetting is the process of restoring balance within the Extended Autonomic Regulatory System (EARS) – the foundational system governing physical, psychological, and behavioural health. EARS comprises the Central Autonomic Network (CAN), the neuroendocrine system, and the immune–inflammatory system, which together regulate the body’s adaptive response to stressors. Many stress-related health conditions, often described as autonomic dysfunction or dysautonomia, arise from deeper dysregulation across EARS. Rebalancing EARS establishes the groundwork for therapeutic, biomechanical, psychological, or medical interventions, enabling faster and more sustainable outcomes in clinical practice.

WHAT IS THE REASET APPROACH?

The Reaset Approach is not an alternative or complementary therapy – it is an integrative methodology and hands-on treatment modality developed to integrate autonomic regulation into manual therapy. It is not an approach that stands on its own, but is purposely designed to be embedded within mainly physiotherapy, and osteopathy as the missing regulation-first framework needed in today's changing healthcare landscape.

Unlike techniques that can be extracted and applied in isolation, The Reaset Approach is an indivisible protocol. Its effectiveness lies in the coherent sequence of its modalities, which together establish a regulated state in which the body regains its capacity to adapt, repair, and respond to treatment.

By addressing the chronic autonomic imbalances underlying many of today’s health challenges – from musculoskeletal complaints to burnout, long-COVID, and other complex, multimodal conditions – The Reaset Approach introduces the missing regulatory link that conventional treatments overlook. In doing so, it resolves one of the key reasons why so many interventions fail to achieve lasting results. This regulation-first integration amplifies the effectiveness of biomechanical, psychological, and medical interventions, enabling faster, more sustainable outcomes and equipping practitioners for the realities of 21st-century healthcare.

WHAT MAKES THE REASET APPROACH (R)EVOLUTIONARY?

What Makes The Reaset Approach (R)evolutionary?

Traditional biomechanical structure-function treatment frameworks often fail to address stress-induced autonomic dysfunctions that affect both the body and mind. Developed (from 2007) by Tom Meyers, Osteopath D.O., MSc. Ost., The Reaset Approach is the first body-centred treatment of its kind to introduce and integrate autonomic regulation into the biomechanical model.

In today’s fast-changing world, chronic stress-induced musculoskeletal pain has become one of the most significant health concerns, far surpassing direct physical trauma as the primary reason patients seek care. While classical biomechanical treatment methods remain effective for conditions with a clear biomechanical origin, they often fall short in cases where stress-related dysautonomia contributes to a.o. musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) due to a “treatment mismatch” and the chosen therapeutic approach does not align with the underlying autonomic dysregulation and primary cause of a patient’s condition, resulting in ineffective or suboptimal outcomes.

WHY IS THE REASET A BODY-MIND APPROACH?

Bridging the Gap Between Physical and Mental Health

The Reaset Approach is the first body-centred treatment method to extend manual therapy into the domain of psychotherapy. Traditionally, psychological conditions have been treated through psychological or behavioural therapy, while physical ailments have been addressed through direct interventions on the body. However, many mental health conditions today – such as stress, anxiety, mood disorders, cognitive decline, and depression – are not psychological but biological in origin.

In other words, a rising number of mental health issues are stress-related, with dysregulation of one or more aspects of the extended autonomic regulatory system (EARS), which includes the central autonomic network (CAN), the autonomic nervous system (ANS), the neuroendocrine system (NE-S), and immune inflammatory system (IIS) – just as in MSDs – as the primary factor. Stress-related mental health disorders often coincide with MSDs and other seemingly unrelated ailments, creating a complex interplay between mental and physical health. By restoring autonomic balance, The Reaset Approach directly and indirectly addresses the physiological imbalances that drive both stress-related mental health problems and their associated physical symptoms, often leading to remarkable improvements after just one consultation.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR PT's

In today’s fast-changing and challenging world, many musculoskeletal health problems that bring patients to seek help no longer stem from physical trauma (accidents, falls, etc.) but rather from chronic stress, which deregulates the ANS. This stress-related dysautonomia can further develop into an autonomic lesion, leading to multimodal health problems with symptoms that often seem to appear overnight.

Without restoring autonomic balance first, any attempt to alleviate pain or treat symptoms by simply correcting structure and function through traditional biomechanical methods will fail to produce lasting results. It’s like trying to reset a tripped fuse breaker by flipping it back to the “On” position without first fixing the overloaded circuit – it simply won’t work.

The Reaset Approach resolves this issue by targeting the autonomic imbalance/lesion first, restoring autonomic regulation before addressing the somatic lesion/dysfunction.

Reaset Practitioners Insights

FAQ's

How long does a Reaset take?

The Reaset Approach is a regulation-first process, not a standalone technique. It forms part of a complete treatment protocol and focuses on restoring autonomic balance before addressing structural or functional issues.

For a skilled practitioner, a Reaset typically takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on:

  • The patient’s current state and level of stress or dysregulation
  • The purpose of the session (regulation, integration, or follow-up)
  • Whether it’s a first session or part of a continuing treatment plan

Importantly, the methodology also emphasises that the entire treatment should embody the principles of a Reaset. This means that after the initial Reaset protocol, all subsequent techniques are applied with autonomic regulation in mind – helping the body remain in a state of ease and recalibration, not only before other therapeutic steps, but also throughout the treatment itself.

Can The Reaset Approach be used on children?

Yes – The Reaset Approach can be safely integrated into a child’s treatment. In fact, children often respond remarkably well, as their regulatory systems are still flexible and naturally adaptive.

However, the same professional conditions and red flags that apply to any paediatric treatment in your field also apply here. Practitioners must stay within their professional scope, assess carefully, and always consider developmental stage, health status, and consent.

When used appropriately, the Reaset Approach offers a gentle and effective way to help children regain ease, balance, and self-regulation – especially in cases of stress-related tension, sleep issues, or digestive discomfort.

Can The Reaset Approach be used with children on the autism spectrum?

Yes – The Reaset Approach can be safely and effectively integrated into the care of children on the autism spectrum, always within the practitioner’s professional scope and respecting individual needs and sensitivities.

Because it is based on gentle, attuned touch and the principle of autonomic regulation, the approach can help support calm, sensory integration, and overall physiological balance. It is not a treatment for autism, but a way to help the body find ease and stability, which may in turn improve comfort, sleep, and emotional regulation.

As always, the same professional conditions and red flags that apply to paediatric treatment should be observed – including informed consent, sensitivity to touch tolerance, and close collaboration with parents or caregivers.

If you want to speak to a Reaset Integrated Physio or Osteo that has applied it on children on the autism spectrum send me a WhatsApp and I'll connect you.

Can The Reaset Approach be used for mental health disorders?

Yes – especially for stress-related forms of depression, anxiety, cognitive decline, and mood disorders.

These conditions are often biological in origin, as chronic stress can lead to vascular and metabolic changes in the brain that alter glucose and nutrient distribution – directly influencing mood, focus, and emotional regulation.

Research by Prof. Robert Sapolsky, presented in his book “Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers,” clearly shows how prolonged stress affects the brain and body on a biological level.

By restoring autonomic regulation, The Reaset Approach helps the body return to balance, supporting recovery and complementing ongoing psychological or medical treatments.

What can I do to reset the autonomic nervous system?

This is one of the most common questions I get from physiotherapists and other practitioners.

The truth is – there’s no single ‘reset button’ or quick fix for autonomic regulation. The autonomic system is multimodal and highly interconnected, involving neural, hormonal, vascular, and fascial pathways. It can’t be reduced to a single technique, hand position, or “do this, do that” protocol.

Some popular online claims suggest that vagal stimulation alone can restore balance, but this oversimplifies the process. In fact, many of my patients who tried such methods reported feeling worse, because forcing parasympathetic activation without addressing sympathetic overdrive can create new imbalances.

Autonomic regulation must be facilitated, not forced.

It requires skilled assessment, a systems-based approach, and a deep understanding of how the body integrates sensory, emotional, and physiological signals – exactly what The Reaset Approach is designed to do.
